I believe you are referring to DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink.
Pros: Greatly simplfies the process of making backups. Backups are essential when you have children. Cons: Doesn't have a 'Pause' button. When Cleaning VOB's the disk I/O is horrendous if you're trying to do anything else at the same time.
